German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht is in the spotlight of the German press for her ill-conceived New Year’s message shortly after the change of time.
Lambrecht did not content herself with the usual wishes for the New Year, but also referred to the war in Ukraine, which she said led in “many and special experiences” vas the fireworks in the background explode.

Her statements were criticized by the German press, with the German daily, Tagesspiegel, running a scathing commentary entitled “Lambrecht can no longer stand as minister”. The one-minute message, filmed on a cellphone, “embarrassed” Germany, Bild newspaper reported.

At a regular press conference, a defense ministry spokesman declined to comment on the “private video” Lambrecht posted. All he could say was that “no official resources were used” to make the video.
