At least impressive, and certainly strange by European standards, is the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica cemetery in São Paulo, in which tomorrow the legendary Pele.
It is a luxurious 14-story building – a veritable necropolis, which even includes a waterfall and a car museum – which also holds the Guinness record for the tallest cemetery in the world (!).
The building is located directly opposite the Santos stadium, where the body of the legendary football player is on display from today Monday in a popular pilgrimage – WATCH LIVE.
The burial of Pele will take place in the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica will take place in a closed family circle. Pele himself had chosen his final residence there so that it would be opposite the Estadio Urbano Caldeira, where he achieved some of his greatest achievements.
Construction of the Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica began in 1983 and the first burial took place on July 28, 1984.
Today, there are approximately 16,000 graves in the skyscraper-cemetery.
