Fine for the driver of the car, who is a permanent resident of Switzerland
Customs officials at the border between Germany and Switzerland lost count when their passengers began to disembark from a seven-seater car: a total of 23 people, of whom 9 were adults.
In the car, a Seat Alhambra, they had managed to fit the members of an “extended family” traveling from Poland to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The vehicle was checked on Monday morning, German authorities said.
“Twenty-three people got out of the car,” the police succinctly described. There were 9 adults and 14 children.
The check took place at the Weil al-Rhine border station in south-west Germany.
The driver of the car, who is a permanent resident of Switzerland, will be fined for carrying so many passengers “without any guarantee for their safety”, German police added.
After the procedures were completed, the tribe was given permission to cross into Switzerland, but “not all of them inside the Seat Alhambra”, the police clarified.
