For many months now, the National Medicines Safety Authority (ANSM) has asked France’s pharmacies to give a specific amount of paracetamol to each patient.
The French government banned online sales of products based on the paracetamolas there are still difficulties in supplying this ingredient used in painkillers.
“The online sale of products consisting exclusively of paracetamol is suspended until January 31, 2023,” the French government said in a decree.
This decision was taken due to “the ongoing problems for more than six months with paracetamol-based medicines”, mainly those intended for children.
“The various measures taken by the health authorities, however effective, have so far not allowed to overcome” the problems, the government admitted.

In December, the French health ministry warned that despite these measures, the situation remains “complex” and will not be resolved for several weeks.

The Chinese government banned the export of paracetamol, large quantities of which it exported to pharmaceutical companies around the world.
The problems with paracetamol are part of a wider context of shortages of various medicines in France and other countries, such as amoxicillin.
