The World Health Organization emphasized yesterday that it does not consider the data announced by the authorities in Beijing to be “representative”

China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today that one patient died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, up from five the previous day, with the official death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic in the giant Asian country of 1.41 billion people to reach 5,259 dead by the end of 2019.

As the World Health Organization emphasized yesterday that it does not consider the data announced by the authorities in Beijing to be “representative”, while it characterized the definition of deaths due to the disease caused by the new coronavirus as “too narrow”, the European Union’s crisis management mechanism ” “strongly encouraged” on Wednesday that member states require travelers from China to undergo molecular testing no later than 48 hours before departure.

Several governments have announced restrictive measures in recent weeks, citing reports of an explosive increase in SARS-CoV-2 cases in China, measures which Chinese authorities have deemed unjustified and “unacceptable”.
