This is the second teenager to be killed in the new year

A Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli soldiers in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, where clashes broke out between the army and local militants, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced today.

“Amer Abun Zeitoun, 16, was killed by a bullet to the head fired by Israeli soldiers” in Nablus, in the northern West Bank, the ministry said in a brief statement.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the information.

The Lion’s Den organization, which was founded by Palestinian militants, said on Telegram that “our fighters were involved in night clashes in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus.”

The armed group has increased its attacks against Israeli forces in recent months.

Amer Abu Zeitoun is the fourth Palestinian killed by the Israeli army in the West Bank this year and the second teenager after 15-year-old Adam Ayad, who was killed on Tuesday near Bethlehem.

On Monday, two Palestinians were killed during an Israeli army operation in Jenin aimed at demolishing the homes of Palestinians accused of involvement in the fatal attack on an Israeli army officer.

After a series of anti-Israeli attacks last spring, the Israeli army has increased its operations in the West Bank, especially in Jenin, which is considered a stronghold of armed groups.

According to the UN, in 2022 more than 150 Palestinians were killed in Israeli operations or in clashes with Israeli forces, the heaviest toll since the end of the second Intifada (2000-2005).
