It has been described as the largest divorce case in the legal history of the United Kingdom. A settlement of over 500 million pounds, which concerns a billionaire from Dubai and his estranged wife.
The story of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum (Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates) and the youngest of his six wives, 47-year-old Haya Bid Al-Hussein (daughter of the former King of Jordan).
The Supreme Court awarded the princess the lump sum of 251.5 million euros, which concerns the maintenance of two luxury properties, one next to Kensington Palace and the second in Egham, Surrey.
At the same time, Al-Maktoum was asked to pay a large sum of money for the personal security of his ex-wife, her vacation, her nurse, the nanny of their two children (14 and 9 years old) etc.
Among what Haya “won” is a series of armored vehicles, as well as the maintenance costs of the family pets.
As if all this were not enough, the princess will also receive ποσό 5.6 million a year for each of her two children, an amount that cumulatively reaches 0 290 million.
The court ruling comes to put an end to the long-running dispute of the United Arab Emirates royal family.
Princess Haya had fled Dubai with her children in 2019, and had taken refuge in Britain. He had claimed that he feared for her life shortly after the sheikh had abducted two of the daughters he had had with the rest of his wives.
Al-Maktoum, 72, of course, denied the allegations.
Haya continued to receive threats even after settling in Britain. As a result, she began spending huge sums of money on her security, fearing that her children would be abducted by the sheikh and forcibly returned to Dubai.
And as it turned out, in the end she was not unjustly afraid, as it was found that her estranged husband was stealing data from her cell phones, her bodyguards and her lawyers.
Following this development, British justice ruled that Haya and the children were indeed threatened by the sheikh.
Although the princess claimed that she would not make legal claims for her personal needs (except for the safety and well-being of her children), during the court hearing she was repeatedly criticized for her excessive expenses.
For example, she asked to be given three luxury cars to her 9-year-old son, on the grounds that she was used to expensive gifts. The judge, however, rejected her request.
