The immediate taking of measures in our country to stop an impending exponential increase of cases due to the Omicron variant, was proposed by Public Health Professor and member of the Committee of Experts Takis Panagiotopoulos, speaking to SKAI and the show “Today”.
“It does not mean that there are spaces with 100% fullness,” said the professor, expressing the need for indoor spaces such as theaters, cinemas and entertainment centers to operate at 60% fullness.
He explained that from one point onwards the exponential increase of cases will not be able to be controlled and for this reason it becomes necessary to take restrictive measures: “The exponential increase of cases, when it reaches a certain level can not be restrained. Whatever we have to do must be done now, we must not wait to take action. “I understand the anxiety about the economic consequences, but if we have an uncontrolled spread of the virus, the economic consequences will be manifold.”
Regarding the Omicron variant, he stressed that “even if the serious cases are lower in percentage due to the mild, mainly, disease that seems to cause”, he explained that if the number of cases is huge then “it can be we see a very large number of seriously ill people in absolute numbers “.
