The representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov expressed doubts this evening whether the rejection of the proposed 36-hour ceasefire by an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency reflected the view of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It is difficult for us to judge whether (Mikhail) Podoliak’s opinion reflects the opinion of the president of Ukraine,” Peskov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

Zelensky has yet to comment on the truce ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Christmas (with the old calendar). Earlier, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak dismissed Moscow’s proposal as “hypocrisy” and said it would only be possible if Russia withdrew from all the territories it has seized.
