Hendricks was born on November 7, 1907 and was listed by the Los Angeles Gerontology Research Group as the oldest person in the US. She was a one-room school teacher in her hometown of Calhoun and had five children, three of whom are still alive, according to USA Today.
When she turned 112 she told local media that the secret of her longevity it was “the hard work”. Her daughter said at the time that Hendricks almost never took medication and liked sweets.
On her 115th birthday, the Shady Oaks nursing home where she resided said she “had a wonderful day celebrating with family and friends.”
With Hendrix’s death, the oldest living person in the US is now Eddie Ceccarelli of California, who will turn 115 on February 5.
