Message to Elon Musk to combat misinformation on Twitter sent Berlin.
Germany’s Minister of Transport and Digital Technology Volker Wissing recently met with the head of the digital platform to clarify exactly what Berlin expects from Twitter Inc, particularly to fight disinformation, since the Tesla founder bought the said social networking platform, according to the German Ministry of Digital Technology.
The German minister was in California at the beginning of 2023, even taking a selfie with Musk. He told him that Germany expects Twitter to voluntarily comply with existing commitments to combat disinformation, a ministry spokesman said.
Danke @elonmusk for a constructive conversation in San Francisco. Meine Haltung ist klar: Die Selbstverpflichtung der Plattformen gegen #Disinformation muss strict eingehalten werden, bis der #DSA in Kraft tritt. Elon Musk agreed with me. pic.twitter.com/hmnnW2qRmu

Vissing also told Musk that he expects Twitter to comply in the future with the legislation governing digital technology agreed between the 27 member states of the European Union and legislators in April 2022. This legislation requires online platforms to do more to police the internet from illegal posts.
“There was a very open and lengthy discussion,” the spokesman said in a statement, adding that Musk made a commitment to Wissing.
The German government will continue to watch with a critical eye the situation on Twitter, added the spokesman who did not elaborate on Musk’s personal statements. Twitter Inc did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
