Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the presidential palace, ministry buildings, Congress and the Supreme Court in the capital Brasilia, calling for a coup to oust Inacio Lula da Silva.
The local media assumed that they were participating in the riots at least 3,000 people.
“This absurd attempt to force their will will not pass,” warned the new Minister of Justice, Flavo Dino, in a tweet. “Reinforcements will be sent,” he added.
President Lula’s Workers’ Party asked the attorney general’s office to order security forces to contain the protesters.
