“Solidarity with the Brazilian people, whose institutions are under attack by the far right. This is where conspiracy, the delegitimization of a democratically elected president and the questioning of universal suffrage lead,” a Macron MP tweeted

French MPs from President Macron’s party and the left have denounced “far-right attacks” in Brazil, voicing their support for President Lula, after thousands of Bolsonaros stormed government buildings in Brasilia.

“Solidarity with the Brazilian people, whose institutions are under attack by the far right. This is where conspiracy theory, the delegitimization of a democratically elected president and the questioning of universal suffrage lead,” the MP tweeted Stéphane Cezournetthe head of Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon of the “Insubordinate Left”, a former candidate for the presidency of France, accused the Brazilian far-right of trying “a la Trump” to overthrow Lula in a coup. “Solidarity with Brazilian democracy!” he wrote on Twitter.

“That’s who the extreme right is everywhere in the world. He always denies democracy! Full support for President Lula”, underlined the head of the Socialist party Olivier Faure.

“January 6, 2021 in Washington, January 8, 2023 in Brasilia. The same scenario is playing out, with the extreme right denying the verdict of the ballot box. Support for Lula to restore democracy in Brazil,” said the vice-president of the French National Assembly Valerie Rambo.
