The Decentralized Government of Wales has announced the imposition of additional restrictive measures to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
According to local Prime Minister Mark Drakeford, the variant is now prevalent in Wales.
Therefore, from the second day of Christmas, the limit of six people returns to the gatherings in restaurants, cinemas, theaters and other similar places.
The obligation to keep a distance of two meters in public places and workplaces also reappears.
The mask should also be used in catering by anyone who is not sitting at their table, while orders will be taken at the table and not at the bar. Catering companies should also ask for their customers’ contact information for case tracking purposes.
Large crowded events will not be allowed either indoors or outdoors. The limit for indoor spaces is 30 people and for outdoor spaces 50.
Exceptions are sporting events where 50 spectators in addition to the competitors will be allowed, as well as events involving children.
Also from Sunday, the operation of nightclubs will be banned.
“We are facing a very serious situation in Wales. A wave of infections caused by the new, fast-moving and highly infectious Omicron variant is coming towards us. “This new type of coronavirus could infect large numbers of people in Wales, disrupting everyday life and business, and could cause an increase in the number of people in need of hospital care in the coming weeks,” Drarickford said, justifying the measures.
According to the Guardian, the Joint Vaccination and Immunization Committee is not expected to recommend the general vaccination against COVID-19 in children aged 5-11, but only those who are considered vulnerable to other underlying diseases.
The Commission recently approved a second dose for children aged 12-15.
