Brazil: Former President Bolsonaro discharged from hospital in Florida

Mr. Bolsonaro, who flew to Florida 48 hours before his term was up — he was the big absentee at the January 1 inauguration of his center-left successor Luis Inacio Lula da Silva — was hospitalized a day after thousands of far-right activists stormed the headquarters of of three powers in Brasilia, Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace, causing widespread destruction.

Brazil’s far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro was released Tuesday from a hospital near Orlando, Florida, where he was admitted the day before Monday, a source close to his family said.

The same information was given earlier by Laurou Jardim, journalist of the newspaper O Globo.

The former head of state was treated for bowel pains linked to a knife attack he suffered during a campaign rally in 2018. Mr Bolsonaro’s doctor said it was nothing serious.
