Today’s announcement came after Uganda completed 42 days without active cases
Uganda today declared the end of his nearly four-month epidemic Ebola after temporarily experiencing difficulties in containing it but then quickly managed to bring it under control even though there is no tested vaccine against the virus strain in question.
“We have successfully brought the spread of Ebola under control in Uganda,” said Jane Ruth Atseng, the health minister, during a ceremony marking the end of the outbreak.
The outbreak has killed 55 of the 143 people infected since September, according to health ministry figures. Six of the victims were health care workers.
Today’s announcement was made after the Uganda completed 42 days no active casesan interval corresponding to two full incubation periods of the virus.
In the first weeks of the outbreak, cases spread beyond the epicenter of Mubende, 150 kilometers west of the capital Kampala, in many other areas.
