An explosion was reported outside the Taliban-controlled foreign ministry in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday. According to information from the AFP news agency, the episode left more than 20 victims.
Attacks on the city have become frequent over the past year, marked by the return of the fundamentalist Taliban regime. Many are authored by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, whose Pakistani branch known as IS-Khorasan has publicly disagreed with the group.
According to an AFP official at the scene, a man was walking through the area with a bag, possibly containing explosives, and a Kalashnikov rifle, minutes before the explosion.
Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for Kabul police, said on Twitter that the blast was reported around 4 pm local time and that there were casualties, but did not specify the number. “Security teams have reached the area, details will be shared later.”
