There is no indication of a cyberattack on the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) system that experienced a technical problem, and President Joe Biden has been briefed on the incident, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said.

What has happened – Hundreds of flights have been canceled or delayed

Flight cancellations and delays were reported in the US today as airport authorities warned passengers to contact their airlines for updates while the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) tries to fix a technical problem in its system.

The FAA said it is trying to restore the system that alerts pilots to hazards and changes in airport facilities and procedures, which stopped processing updated information. He also announced that he had instructed airlines to stop all domestic flight departures until 16.00 Greek time. Aircraft already in the air were allowed to continue their journey.

A total of 1,230 flights were delayed within the US or en route to or from the country as of today at 14:19 Greek time, according to data from flight tracking website FlightAware. At the same time, another 103 domestic flights or aircraft routes to or from the US were cancelled.

“The FAA continues to work to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system following a technical issue. While some operations are beginning to be restored, National Airspace System operations remain limited,” the US Civil Aviation Administration said in a Twitter post.

United Airlines announced that they have temporarily delayed all domestic flights and will issue an update when they receive an update from the FAA. Germany’s Lufthansa and Air France said they were continuing to operate flights to and from the US, while the French airline said it was monitoring the situation.
