Biden orders investigation into chaos at US airports: Flight departures gradually restored

Hundreds of flights canceled or delayed – The cause of the problem is not known, says the US president

THE US President Joe Biden ordered an investigation into the technical problem in a Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) system that resulted in get stuck today on the ground aircraft across the country and stated that the cause of the problem is not known.

Flight departures from US airports gradually began to recover as the FAA tried to address a technical problem in its system that affected thousands of aircraft. The FAA had earlier ordered airlines to suspend all domestic flight departures following a technical problem with the Notice to Air Missions pilot information system. Aircraft already in the air were allowed to continue on their way. The FAA had announced it was trying to restore the system that alerts pilots to hazards and changes in airport facilities and procedures, which stopped processing updated information.

Biden told reporters that he had spoken with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttige and that in an hour or two there would be a clearer picture of what caused the problem.

“We will respond then,” Biden said. Asked if the problem was caused by a cyberattack, he said: “We don’t know.”

“We don’t know what the cause is,” Biden said. “Aircraft can again land safely but not take off at this time. We don’t know what is the cause of this.”

The US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it is lifting the suspension of all domestic flights in the US, which was necessitated earlier today by a technical problem in the FAA system that resulted in aircraft being grounded across the country.

The origin of the problem has not yet been determined.

“Normal air traffic operations are gradually being restored across the US” after a failure of the safety information system for flight crews, the FAA said in a tweet, clarifying that it “will continue to investigate the cause of the initial problem.”

THE White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said earlier in a Twitter post that there is currently no indication of a cyber attack.

Flight cancellations and delays hit the US today as the FAA tried to fix the technical problem. A total of 32,578 flights were delayed within the US or en route to or from the country as of 14:55 GMT today, according to data from flight tracking website FlightAware. At the same time, another 409 domestic flights or aircraft routes to or from the US were cancelled.
