Brigitte Macron declared in favor of school uniforms

by

“I wore the uniform as a schoolgirl: 15 years old, dark blue skirt, dark blue sweater. And it went well. This eliminates differences, you save time – it’s time-consuming to choose how to dress in the morning, and money,” said Emmanuel Macron’s wife

The wife of the French president, Brigitte Macron, is “in favor of students wearing uniforms to school” in an interview published today, an issue that is causing backlash in France, even within the presidential camp.

When asked by seven newspaper readers Le Parisien, Emmanuel Macron’s wife answered a question about the uniform very directly.

“I wore the uniform as a schoolgirl: 15 years old, dark blue skirt, dark blue sweater. And it went well. This eliminates differences, saves time – it’s time-consuming to choose how to dress in the morning, and money – compared to designer clothes”declares.

“So I’m all for a uniform at school, but a simple uniform and not a somber one,” she adds.

Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party has set up a working group in the National Assembly on the issue that divides the French.

But the Minister of Education Papa Diage he also said last week: “to force the uniform on all students, (I say) no,” noting, however, that a school can establish a uniform locally.

A proposed law by the far-right National Alarm party to make uniform compulsory in public schools was rejected in mid-December in a committee in the Assembly, despite support from the right. The proposal is expected to be discussed tomorrow, Thursday.

In this lengthy debate, Brigitte Macron also calls for faster awareness of the issue of harassment, from primary education onwards, and to make it a “priority”. He also says he’s in favor of extending the middle school no-cell phone rule to the high school.

“In no case should the level of requirements be lowered” in spelling, “I recommend doing a little dictation every day,” he also adds, on the eve of educational recommendations on this matter.
