The special Covid committee calls on the Commission’s proposal to explain its role in the negotiation of the third and largest contract with Pfizer, but also about the text messages (SMS) it exchanged with the CEO of the company

The special committee of the European Parliament on the Covid-19 pandemic decided to invite the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to a hearing on the Covid19 vaccine contracts.

In particular, the said committee of the European Parliament invites her Ursula von der Leyen to explain her role in negotiating the third and largest contract with Pfizer, but also about the text messages (SMS) she exchanged with the CEO of the company; Albert Burla.

Also, following the double refusal of Pfizer CEO Mr Burla to testify in the European Parliament, the special committee on Covid-19 is calling for sanctions against the pharmaceutical company by suspending its access to the European Parliament. The same committee requests that Pfizer CEO Albert Burla’s access to the European Parliament be suspended. This request will be considered by the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament (based on Article 123 of the EC Rules of Procedure), which will determine the details of a possible restriction of Pfizer’s access to the EC (e.g. in terms of the time frame and faces). The General Secretariat may, with the authorization of the Deans, deny the right of access to the EC from a registered person who, inter alia, “refused to comply with a formal invitation to attend a hearing or committee meeting or who does not cooperate with an inquiry committee without provides sufficient justification’.

As for the request by the Covid Committee to invite the President of the Commission to a hearing, according to EP regulation the invitation will be sent to Parliament President Roberta Metzola, who will then decide whether to ask Ursula von der Leyen to attend in the hearing.
