A journalist was embarrassed after the Turkish Finance Minister answered a question about the country’s economic situation.
Specifically when the journalist asked Nurettin Nebati to quote specific numbers for the currency that was converted into pounds.
The minister, however, preferred to ask her to look him in the eyes instead of numbers!
The journalist insisted that the economy is numbers, but he argued that the economy is the glitter in his eyes.
The whole characteristic dialogue:
-The Central Bank announced the new measures for the guarantees in the deposits, in the increases against the dollar and the euro. How are the numbers?
– Do not refer to numbers. But they are doing well! Mrs. Gulchin, look into my eyes! What do you see in my eyes?
– I see the joy, Mr. Minister, but the economy is the numbers!
-Economy is numbers you say, but numbers are expectations. The economy is confidence, the economy is stability, the economy is the gleam in the eyes! My colleagues see the glow in my eyes!
