Asked if the US would not support the venture, Major General Kohavi insisted: “Israel must be able to carry out this mission even on its own.”

Israel’s armed forces have been adequately prepared for the possibility of being ordered to attack Iran, outgoing chief of staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kohavi said.

It is handing — he said — the incoming chief of Israel’s national defense general staff, Paratrooper Major General Herchi Halevi, “an army capable of attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.”

“There are a number of plans; and it will only grow in the coming years,” Lt. Gen. Kohavi told ynet, the website of the Yedot Aharonot (“Latest News”) newspaper, yesterday Friday.

Aviv Kohavi retires the day after tomorrow, Monday, the day he completes his four-year term in office. In total, he served in the Israeli army for almost forty years.

In another interview with the Walla news website, the outgoing head of the Chahal (an acronym for the Israeli armed forces in Hebrew) reiterated that “the army is ready to carry out its mission the day the order is given.”
