The case of an elderly man in the US, who worked as a cashier at a well-known retail chain and finally managed to retire at the age of 82, is causing a sensation on the Internet, after an online fundraiser on the occasion of a video of him published on TikTok.

Butch Marion worked his last shift on Wednesday, thanks to a TikToker who helped raise more than $100,000.

The elderly widower and US Navy veteran, from Cumberland, Maryland, was finally able to retire after receiving a check for $108,682 in online GoFundMe donations.

The fundraiser was organized by Rory McCarty, whose posts about the 82-year-old went viral on TikTok.

“As a business owner and knowing how difficult it has been trying to find meaningful help for my business, I was shocked to see this elderly man working 8 to 9 hour shifts,” McCarty wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Local media captured the moment the 82-year-old was stunned to receive the life-changing check within a minute and later walk away from the business with his co-workers cheering him on as they set up balloons in the parking lot.

His desire is to pay off his house and travel to Florida to see his children.

Local media captured the new retiree walking through the parking lot of the giant Walmart with balloons and applause. “Wow” was the first word out of his mouth after the check was handed over.

“All I can tell you is that the good Lord blessed me for what I did in my younger years,” he commented.
