London police said on Wednesday that an investigation was being carried out by the counter-terrorism agency after the December 29 seizure of a small amount of uranium in a package at Heathrow Airport.

British tabloid The Sun reported that the package originated in Pakistan and arrived in England on a plane from Oman.

Police Chief Richard Smith said that based on the information available so far, the incident does not appear to be related to any type of threat to the public. The investigation continues.

The discovery of a very small amount of uranium is of course worrying, but it shows the effectiveness of the procedures and controls implemented by our partners to detect this type of material, he added.
