The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, was received by King Charles III of the United Kingdom this morning.

At the invitation of the British monarch the meeting took place at the king’s private residence in Scotland, known as Birchhall, within the royal estate of Balmoral.

Present were the royal wife Camila and the First Lady of Cyprus Mrs. Andri Anastasiadis.

According to a written statement by the Government Representative Marios Pelekanos, the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere.

During the meeting, President Anastasiades provided an update on the latest developments in the Cyprus conflict.

At the same time, among other things, the bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom were discussed, which have been greatly strengthened during the ten-year term of office of Nikos Anastasiadis in the Presidency of the Republic, with the conclusion of very important bilateral Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, such as, for example, the Memorandum for Strategic Cooperation and the Memorandum for civilian development of the area of ​​British Bases in Cyprus for the benefit of the residents of these areas.

In the President’s meeting with King Charles, issues that are on the agenda of the Commonwealth, climate change and its effects, were also discussed, with reference also to the initiative of the President of the Republic to undertake actions aimed at addressing the consequences of climate change in the region Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean.
