The strategic plan was presented to the prime minister by the Head of the Reconstruction Committee of Northern Evia, Stavros Benos.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presided today at a meeting at the Maximos Palace, in which the strategic planning study (masterplan) for the Reconstruction of Northern Evia was officially handed over and the symbolic start of the implementation phase of all the projects and actions of the program.

The strategic plan was presented to the Prime Minister, the representatives of the local government and the members of the “Evia Meta” Subcommittee, which is responsible for monitoring the course of the program, by the Head of the Reconstruction Committee of Northern Evia, Stavros Benos.

“There is no doubt that in this project a very bold look at how we can imagine Northern Evia was combined with the searches of the residents themselves. It is by no means a plan drawn up in a vacuum, the depth of consultation is indeed impressive. And I believe that this is what makes the residents themselves today more optimistic that this is something that can really change their lives for the better.

Our job now – and have no doubt that we will – is to make sure that we monitor, at central government level, the implementation of this plan. But you are helping us a lot because a large part of the work and milestones have already been entered. This essentially means central planning. Careful study, timelines, milestones, financial tools, transparency, accountability. From the moment we speak publicly and present a plan publicly, it means that we, we, you, are accountable to the citizens, to those directly interested in how we will implement this”, stressed Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who thanked Mr. Beno, noting that he “more than justified our expectations regarding the great work he did”.

The new road axis is a condition for breaking the isolation of Evia

“We will make specific announcements specifically for the major projects. And I refer primarily to the road, very briefly, because whatever we say, we have discussed it many times. The road is in this case a necessary and sufficient condition. It is such an important project to break the isolation of Evia that we should put it very high in our priorities.

And of course the forest where the horizontal actions are connected with the cycle of nature itself. I understand that natural regeneration may exceed our expectations. But help is needed, flood protection projects are needed. And as we go forward, we have a strong sense that all of this has a strong developmental dimension. Private investments small, medium, large, emblematic projects like Edipsos will really be able to be a point of reference for all of Evia.

And many more which are presented in great detail. They will allow us, at some point, I believe, to take stock and be proud of what we have achieved after a great disaster”, pointed out the Prime Minister who also thanked the donors who financed with 8 million euros all the critical studies for the preparation of the master plan.

“Here, as you will see, triple sustainability is imposed everywhere. And of course the value environment that we now live in both from the planet and from the European Union, which is the double transition, the innovation and I address the mayors: I took my ashore with my most favorite value conquest of Europe for the state and the self-government which is the principle of subsidiarity. That is, what the principle of subsidiarity says: whatever we can do low, we do it as low as possible.

So the whole program is inspired by this principle and we have a great project for self-government. In addition to the governmental responsibilities, a large part of the responsibilities has been assigned to the Municipalities and the Region.

What is our vehicle for all of this? That’s all, it’s about how we do it. Europe has the vehicle ready and if you want my opinion, I consider it to be Europe’s greatest intellectual achievement since its foundation, i.e. the holistic programs, the integrated spatial investments” noted the Head of the Reconstruction Committee of North Evia, Stavros Benos.

The Regional Governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, the Mayor of Istiaia, Yiannis Kontzias and the Mayor of Mantoudi – Limni – Agia Anna Giorgos Tsapourniotis, who participated in the meeting, mentioned the good cooperation with the Government and the members of the “Evia Meta” Subcommittee.
