Hopeful for ML King Day: The Fight for Racial Justice and Equality Continues

As the Archbishop of America notes, “Dr. Martin Luther King, a leading figure in the struggle for human liberties and political and social rights, would be 94 years old today if he were alive.”

“It is the duty of all of us to renew our commitment to unite against racism showing its hideous face again in our world.” Archbishop of America Elpidophoros makes this point with his post on social media, on the occasion of the celebration of Martin Luther King Dayon January 15, which is for the United States of America a federal holiday and mainly an official day of offering to the communities in the constant struggle of equality and equality of all people, regardless of discrimination.

As he concludes, “the struggle for racial justice and equality continues until that beautiful day when we will all realize that we are all one in Christ”.

In 1968, and while he was still planning a march on Washington, the “March of the Poor”, he was assassinated on April 4 in Memphis (Tennessee). King posthumously received many honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. In 1986, January 15 (his birthday) was declared a public holiday in the US.
