The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the US today of preparing the ground for conflict in Ukraine as part of what he called a hybrid war against Moscow.
During his annual press conference from Moscow, Lavrov pointed out that the crisis in Ukraine began long before Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to invade the country last February.
Lavrov also compared recent US actions to those of Adolf Hitler and Napoleon, pointing out that Washington has subjugated Europe in order to wage war against Moscow.
The Russian minister stated that Hitler and Napoleon had previously tried to use the same tactics against Russia.
“The US, through Ukraine, is waging a war against our country with the same goal: the final solution of the Russian issue,” Lavrov complained.
“Just as Hitler wanted the ‘final solution’ of the Jewish question, now, if you read Western politicians (…) they clearly say that Russia must suffer a strategic defeat,” he added.
At the same time, he pointed out that Moscow has not yet seen any serious proposal to achieve peace in Ukraine, while adding that the ideas of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky for the matter cannot be accepted.
According to the Russian foreign minister, Moscow is ready to discuss the conflict with Western countries and “respond to any serious proposals. We haven’t seen any serious proposals yet.”
But he noted that any talks should address Russia’s broader security concerns.
Lavrov once again called on NATO to remove “its military infrastructure” from Ukraine and other countries near the border with Russia, while warning that Moscow would be forced to take similar military measures if Finland and the Sweden join the Alliance.
