Struggle for Julian Sands: British Actor Missing – Went missing while hiking

The 65-year-old actor, who has lived with his family in Los Angeles for years, disappeared last Friday while he was hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains. The name of the missing hiker was released yesterday, while another hiker was reported missing on Monday.

Severe winter weather across California has delayed searches around Mount Baldy. “Rescue crews were withdrawn from the mountain on Saturday night for their own safety, while a drone and helicopter search continues,” officials said.

There is a serious avalanche danger in the area and authorities are advising the public to stay away from the area. “It is extremely dangerous and experienced hikers find it difficult to pass there,” they underlined.

As the weather clears, rescue crews plan to continue the search on the ground.

Sands, who grew up in Yorkshire, had a distinguished decade-long film career, with dozens of film and television roles, and lived in the Los Angeles area for years with his wife, writer Evgenia Citkowitz. He has three children.

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper in 2018, Sands spoke about his obsession with mountaineering and the need to live new adventures as he gets older. He described himself as happiest if he is “near a mountain top, on a lovely and cold morning”.

He was in danger in the early 1990s, in the Andes, in a terrible storm above 20,000 feet with three others. “We were all in a very bad state. Some guys near us got lost. We were lucky.”
