“I’m not recruiting Serbs,” said Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin
The Wagner paramilitary group denied today that it is recruiting Serbs to fight in Ukraine, a day after activists filed lawsuits against it in Belgrade.
Among those named in the lawsuits were Russia’s ambassador to Serbia Aleksandar Bochan-Kharchenko and Aleksandar Vulin, the head of Serbia’s state Security and Intelligence Service.
“I do not recruit Serbs,” Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a statement. He also added that he has not heard from either Bochan-Kharchenko or Vulin.
Earlier this week, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Russia should stop its efforts to recruit Serbs to fight alongside Wagner’s forces. She claimed that Russian websites and social media platforms are posting ads in the Serbian language that state that Wagner is looking for volunteers.
