The investigation was requested by the governor of Colorado after the scandal caused by the death of the young man and after more than three million people signed a petition.
On the day of the incident, police received a call from a citizen who reported a “suspicious” African-American man wearing a ski mask and “acting strangely” on an Aurora street. An officer said McClain, who was unarmed, tried to wrestle his handgun away.
According to the victim’s family, the young man had simply gone to buy a drink and was wearing a ski mask, which he used to do.
