The ‘dark’ underbelly of Davos through the eyes of a ladies’ escort – Where another ‘economy’ thrives

The clientele includes politicians, bankers, investors, consultants, who demand secrecy and discretion from the girls

The Grand Hotel Belvedere located on a hill overlooking Davos. His name is apt. The Belvedere looks like a magnificent Alpine mansion. The going rate for basic rooms at Davos – without TV or desk – is currently £800 a night. However, to his clientele they are, almost, “crumbs”. Bankers, CEOs, investors, who have gone to the Swiss resort, two hours from Zurich, for a meeting of the World Economic Forum.

Almost 3,000 delegates were in the city for the five-day conference, the Daily Mail reports, the first in the post-pandemic era, which is said to give an £80m boost to the local economy.

But there is another “economy” in Davos (with a population of just over 11,000), which is also receiving a significant boost and has to do with the world’s oldest profession. Prostitution is legal in Switzerland, with sex workers paying taxes, registering with local authorities and undergoing regular health checks. And business is booming.

Earlier this week, 36-year-old high-profile escort Salome Balthus revealed to the Daily Mail how she had been “shut down” by a congressman. As she reveals, in Davos it’s all about power, money and sex. “I have a regular client and he asked me to meet him at Davos as he was attending. I told him I was in Germany, but he arranged flights and a car for me. We stayed in a beautiful hotel in Davos, drinking champagne and eating wonderful meals.

I gave him what he required and he was very satisfied, but it’s not just sex. My clients also like to chat. I enjoy my job and I like to help someone relax and calm down,” says the lady escort.

Salome, who has her own escort agency in Berlin, adds: “My clients are always of a very high standard and the fact that I have a degree in philosophy and German literature guarantees that they will have a good time, not only sexually, but also spiritually. I have a wonderful client who likes me to wear a sheer top and speak French to him because it reminds him of a forbidden love he had as a student.

He was only 12 years old and his French teacher was in her early 20s and stunningly beautiful. He fantasized about her, so that’s what he wants from me. To wear a see-through blouse and to speak French.”

Salome is not alone. Davos also offers plenty of work for Amy, who runs another escort agency in Amsterdam and is forced to send a group of girls to satisfy the whims of the world’s high-flyers.

“I’ve sent six girls to Davos and it’s worked out well for us. We actually started taking applications about two months ago. Business was so good there that some of the girls were asked by clients to extend their stay for the weekend.

My girls are mostly students, in their 20s, paying for university or finishing their studies and having to pay off loans. Most of the bookings in Davos are for two days, so it’s about €6,000 and some extras. We cover everything a customer wants, within a reasonable framework, and the response I got from my girls in Davos was very good,” she says.

As for her clientele, as she emphasizes, “it’s a mix of politicians and businessmen. Although the majority of clients ‘shut down’ girls for sex, there are some who just want to talk after a long, hard and busy day and vent.”

The official “line” for escorts, not only in Switzerland, but in many countries including Britain, is that they are paid for their time and what they do with their clients is their business. The escorts of ladies who go to Davos are quite different. They are smartly dressed, in business suits so they don’t stand out, and well trained. Discretion is also the number one qualification for a high-end escort.
