Latvia calls on Germany to send Leopard 2 to Ukraine

by

“Whatever is necessary must be done so that Ukraine can defend itself,” Latvian President Egils Levits said

The president of Latvia Egils Levitz called the German chancellor Olaf Solz to approve the delivery of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine in an interview with German radio today.

“Whatever is necessary must be done so that Ukraine can defend itself,” Levych told public broadcaster Deutschlandfunk. This is necessary for the security of Europe as a whole,” he noted, adding that this is “an almost unanimous position of Europe.”

“If a country doesn’t cooperate, that’s obviously a problem.”

Levitz added that he could not understand why Scholz was taking into account the widespread German misgivings about the supply of the tanks.

“Ukraine is under huge pressure and should not be deprived of tanks,” he concluded.

Although Levič’s role is essentially formal, he is nevertheless the head of the Latvian armed forces.
