The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom James Cleverly attended the king cake cutting of the organization “Conservative Friends of Cyprus” in London on Monday evening.

At the annual event, which is traditionally hosted in a hall of the British Parliament, many MPs of the ruling Conservative Party, ambassadors and dozens more members of the organization, the parish and friends of Cyprus were also present.

In his greeting, Mr Cleverley first thanked the Cypriots in Britain for their “enormous and enduring” contribution to the country’s public life and described the event as “an opportunity to celebrate the strong ties between the two countries” and the two peoples, but also of his party with the parish.

“I also want to reaffirm our understandable desire to find a solution to this very long-standing (Cypriot) issue, because this is a friction that I think no one should want to see continue. We will continue to work to bring about a lasting peaceful resolution to this and I sincerely hope that it can be something that can be achieved while I am in office,” concluded the British Foreign Secretary, joking that he meant he wanted a solution “sooner rather than later”. and not to prolong his tenure at the Foreign Office for a long time.
