Swedish aerospace and defense group Saab today announced an order French army for his anti-tank weapons AT4, for 24 million euros.

The French Directorate General of Equipment (DGA) placed this order in mid-December, for delivery in 2023, Saab said in a statement.

Light, portable and low-cost, the AT4 is one of the Swedish group’s best-selling weapons in Western armies and is one of the most widely used anti-tank weapons. The 84 mm rocket is preloaded in a disposable tube.

The order is for 4,226 AT4s and is for a “more advanced version” than the one used by the French military, the DGA told AFP.

AT4s are included in the Swedish military aid package to Ukraine.

This weapon with a range of hundreds of meters can be used “against tanks and heavy combat vehicles” but also against “buildings and fortifications or for the protection of installations”, according to Saab.

Anti-tank weapons have been used massively since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, mainly the NLAW portable missiles, also made by Saab, as well as the American-made Javelin.

France, through the manufacturing company MMDA, also produces man-portable anti-tank missiles, the MMP (renamed Akeron) a very expensive model with a range of 4,000 meters.
