Ukraine: ‘Significant’ power grid problems, Ukrenergo says – Warns of new blackouts

“Electricity production at operating plants cannot fully cover consumption,” said Ukrenergo, which said damage to the power grid was still being repaired.

Ukraine is facing serious problems in the electricity supply, today Monday. Ukraine’s national energy company said problems in the country’s electricity system are “significant” and all areas will be subject to outages during the day due to damage caused by Russian missile attacks.

“Damage to the power grid is still being repaired from the previous series of enemy missile attacks that destroyed power plant units. As a result, the production of electricity at the operating plants cannot fully cover the consumption,” said the Ukrenergo company.

He said the power grid has suffered 13 missile attacks and 15 drone attacks, which have caused significant damage to high-voltage grid facilities and power stations.

“All regional electricity distribution companies have been notified of the consumption limits that apply throughout the day. We remind you that each regional electricity distribution company draws up schedules of planned hourly outages to ensure that the region’s consumption is within the approved limit,” Ukrenergo said.

As of Monday morning, no emergency outages had yet been implemented due to exceeding the limits, but if the limits are exceeded in some areas, there could be outages, the company said.

The restoration of energy infrastructure damaged in the mass attack on January 26 continues, Ukrenergo said. “However, after each subsequent Russian attack on energy infrastructure, recovery becomes more difficult and takes longer.”

The company reiterated that a number of power plants, including the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Station, Europe’s largest, remain under Russian control.
