French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecorny is also expected to meet his Ukrainian counterpart later in the day
French President Emmanuel Macron, who did not rule out “in principle” the delivery of fighter jets to Ukraine, will today welcome Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov to the Elysee Palace, the French presidency said in a statement.
He will also meet the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stephanchuk, who is expected to speak before the French National Assembly at 15:00 local time (16:00 Greek time) and then tomorrow, Wednesday, before the Senate.
Emmanuel Macron will receive the Ukrainian defense minister at the presidential palace at the end of the afternoon, around 6:30 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. Greek time), sources close to the French head of state said.
The purpose of this meeting is to “re-express all its support to Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion and to remind that France is available to respond to the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces,” the announcement states.
French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecorny is also expected to meet his Ukrainian counterpart later in the day.
Asked yesterday, Monday, in The Hague about the possible dispatch of fighter jets to Kyiv, Macron said there were “criteria” before any decision, such as “formulating a request” from Ukraine, that it “would not lead to escalation” and that “this it will not weaken the ability of the French military to protect its own territory.”
