The real income of civil servants in England has fallen by 4.3% from 2009 to 2022

The biggest strike in more than a decade takes place in Britain on Wednesday, as nearly half a million workers across a range of industries walk off the job demanding higher pay amid high inflation.

They are participating in the strike 100,000 employees of 124 government and state agenciesfrom ministries to the border guard.

Train drivers and rail workers from 14 rail companies covering the whole of England are also on strike again, while teachers in England and Wales also join the strike from today.

About 200,000 teachers expected to strike, affecting operation 23,000 schools or 85% of the total, with many remaining closed. The teachers, following the example of their colleagues in Scotland, have announced six more days of action in the coming months.

Lecturers and staff members are also on strike 150 universitiesa total of approx 70,000 employees.

Bus drivers, ambulance staff, nurses, physiotherapists, midwives, Environment Agency workers and firefighters have also called strikes for the coming days and weeks, in their first major strike in 20 years.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, the real income of civil servants in England has fallen by 4.3% between 2009 and 2022.

Meanwhile, a poll shows that the 65% of citizens supports the strikes of nursing staff, while the majority is positively disposed towards mobilizations by firefighters, teachers and postal workers.
