His lawyers hope to overturn a judge’s decision to extend their detention by 30 days
Andrew Tate appeared in court in Romania today as his lawyers argue he should be released. The kickboxer-turned-influencer is being held on suspicion of rape and human trafficking, allegations he denies. His lawyers argue there is not enough evidence to continue holding him and his brother Tristan.
The “toxic” influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been detained since December 29 on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organized criminal group. Two women from Romania have also been taken into custody.
His lawyers hope to overturn a judge’s Jan. 20 decision to extend their detention by 30 days.
As he left court on Wednesday, the ‘toxic’ influencer said: “Andrew Tate has nothing to do with the court: ‘Ask them for evidence and they won’t give you any because there isn’t any. You’ll soon find out the truth about this case”.
If the judge rejects the latest appeal, Andrew Tate he will remain in custody until February 27 while prosecutors investigate the case. It is alleged that the Tate brothers recruited their victims, seducing them and falsely claiming they wanted a relationship or marriage.
Prosecutors say the women were then forced to produce pornographic content under duress. The kickboxer turned influencer is also accused of raping one of the victims last March. All four deny the allegations.
Known for his misogyny, Tate has a huge following, despite being banned from most social media platforms. His Twitter account was reinstated in November after Elon Musk took over the company.
