The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, warns of a new major attack that Russia is preparing and could start as soon as February 24.

Oleksii Reznikov said Moscow had mobilized thousands of troops and could “try something” on the anniversary of the invasion last year.

Referring to Russia’s general mobilization of 300,000 conscripted troops in September last year, he claimed the numbers at the border suggested the actual size could be closer to 500,000. “We do not underestimate our enemy,” Reznikov said. “Officially, they announced 300,000, but when we see the troops on the border, according to our estimates it is much more.”

Reznikov also said Ukrainian commanders would seek to “stabilize the front and prepare for a counterattack” in the face of the rumored Russian advance.

“I believe that the year 2023 can be the year of military victory,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s forces “cannot lose the initiative” they have gained in recent months.

Reznikov’s comments come as Ukrainian intelligence services claim that President Putin has ordered his forces to capture Donbass before the end of spring.
