Serbian president responds to accusations by opposition MPs that he ‘sold out Kosovo’

The president of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic declared from the floor of the Parliament that he will never recognize the independence of Kosovo and will not accept its membership in the UN. Mr. Vucic made this statement in response to opposition MPs who accuse him of “selling out Kosovo”.

The debate in the Parliament of Serbia on his question of Kosovo started this morning in an atmosphere of tension. Far-right MPs booed Vucic by holding banners reading “You betrayed Serbia” and “No to capitulation”.

At the same time, members of the coalition cheered him by clapping and shouting slogans of support. At one point, incidents were threatened when far-right MPs approached the chair where the President of the Republic was sitting and the MPs of his Party rushed to protect him. At the same time, Vucic, instead of trying to calm the spirits, addressed the opposition MPs using heavy expressions. The collision was avoided thanks to the timely intervention of security Parliament.

In his speech, Aleksandar Vucic also referred to the so-called Franco-German plan for the normalization of relations with Kosovo, which he presented to him, on January 20, in Belgrade, the Euro-American delegation. That plan remains a classified document, but Vucic said reports about its content are 90 percent accurate. He repeated the claims that he received warnings that if he rejects the plan, Serbia will suffer sanctions, among which will be the interruption of accession negotiations with the European Union. The debate in the Serbian parliament on the issue of Kosovo is expected to be completed in two days and no vote is expected to take place.
