“No one will give away” the eastern “fortress” city, Zelensky stressed – “We will fight as much as we can. We consider Bahamut our fortress”
Ukraine will continue to fight for Bakhmut as long as it can, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during a news conference as air raid sirens began to sound again in Kyiv.
Air raid sirens on in Kyiv. Second time today. Should be sobering for EU leaders visiting.

“No one will give away” the eastern “fortress” city, he emphasized. “We will fight as much as we can. We consider Bahamut our fortress.”
Ukraine could hold Bakhmut and liberate occupied Donbas “if it received long-range weapons,” Zelensky added.
The city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donbass region has become the focus of Ukrainian resistance to Russia’s intense efforts to conquer the region.
Russian officials said their forces were encircling Bakhmut from several directions and fighting to gain control of a highway that is also important to Ukrainian forces as it supplies the region.
Zelensky said Russia would continue to push eastward and added that Ukrainian forces would be able to hold out until more Western weapons arrived.
It is recalled that both the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel are in Ukraine.
