Qatargate: Nicolo Figa-Talamanca released from prison

by

It is not clear if the terms of his release have been clarified

Nicolas Figa-Talamanca, secretary general of “No Peace Without Justice”, one of the non-governmental organizations linked to the Qatargate corruption scandal, has been released, a spokesman for the Belgian prosecutor’s office told Politico. It is not clear whether the terms of the release have been clarified.

Talamanca had previously been granted permission to walk around with a wristband, but after the prosecution appealed in late December, the decision was reversed and the arrested lobbyist remained in prison.

It is still unclear why the judge now ordered his release. As of press time, Talamanca’s attorney had not responded to Politico’s request for comment.

At the moment, only the Italian former MEP Pier-Antonio Panzeri, and of course the former vice-president of the European Parliament Eva Caili and her partner Francesco Giorgi, are still in prison. It is recalled that recently the alleged mastermind of the Pancheri organization agreed to cooperate with the Belgian authorities by naming those who were bribed by Qatar, in exchange for him going easy.
