The US has not updated its travel advisory for Sweden, which today urges US citizens to take “usual” precautions in that country.
The US embassy in Sweden has warned Americans in the country of possible retaliatory attacks following the burning of the Koran by a far-right politician.
“US citizens are advised to exercise caution when going to public places frequented by large numbers of people,” read a statement posted Sunday on the embassy’s website, warning of possible attacks by unidentified assailants in retaliation for the burning of the Muslim holy book.
“Gathering places, such as places of worship, may be targeted,” the statement said, urging citizens to also be careful when near diplomatic missions, avoid crowds and keep a low profile.

Sweden’s security service was aware of the US warning, a spokesman, Adam Samara, said, but referred further clarification to US authorities. The agency’s assessment today is that the threat of attacks remains “high,” at level 3 on a five-point scale, he added.
