The dead in Turkey and Syria exceed 4,300
The opposition in Syria made a dramatic appeal for help.
Time is up to rescue hundreds of families who remain trapped under the rubble of damaged buildings after Turkey’s devastating earthquakes, the head of the Syrian opposition civil defense warned on Tuesday.
Raed al-Saleh, from the group known as the White Helmets in rebel-held northwest Syria, told Reuters that urgent help from international groups was needed for rescue efforts.
In Turkey alone, according to the latest data announced by the country’s disaster response agency, the dead amount to 2,921 and the injured to 15,834. 1,444 are the dead in Syria, according to the latest tally based on data provided by the Ministry of Health and rescuers.
