The activation of emergency measures to protect vulnerable citizens from the very low temperatures that occurred on Tuesday in London has been ordered by the mayor of the British capital, Sadiq Khan.

In the morning residents of London as well as many other areas of central and southern England woke up to see a freezing fog blocking visibility.

Although during the day the temperature will perhaps reach eight degrees Celsius, at night temperatures down to -6 are expected.

The UK Health Protection Agency has issued a Level 2 cold weather alert until midday Wednesday.

Therefore, for the third time this winter, the mayor has activated the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, which provides for the opening of heated facilities for the homeless and anyone else in need.
