“There is a huge shortage of equipment and tools and a huge shortage of fuel to power our tools, our ambulances and our cars”
As “absolutely devastating” the organization describes the situation in Syria “White Helmets”.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today program from Istanbul, Oubadah Alwan said that five days after the devastating earthquake, the organization’s volunteers have spread out in different places but their rescue equipment is insufficient.
“There is a huge shortage of equipment and tools and a huge shortage of fuel to fuel our tools, our ambulances and our cars,” he said.
At the same time, he pointed out that as the hours pass, the voices under the ruins also diminish, which is particularly disappointing. However, people are still waiting for help to arrive.
“There are people, there are volunteers, there are organizations that want to enter Syria, but it’s just very difficult at the moment, the ability to help has been disrupted,” said Oubadah Alwan.
According to the AFP news agency, the dead in Syria have exceeded 3,300 while the total number of dead exceeds 22,000.
