Rescuers continue to pull alive children from the rubble, filling them with joy and optimism

At least nine children were rescued on Friday, according to videos released by disaster agencies, as reported by Reuters, giving joy and hope to weary rescue crews who have been working non-stop since last Monday under difficult weather conditions.

In the Turkish city of Kahramanmara, rescuers crawled into the ruins of a collapsed building to find a small child, whom they managed to rescue after hours, according to a video broadcast by the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

Further east, in the city of Diyarbakir, another frightened boy begged for help while trapped in the rubble. After opening a large hole, crews placed an oxygen mask on his face and took him to safety. The same happened with the 10-day-old infant who was pulled alive after 90 hours under the rubble in the Antiyaman province of southeastern Turkey.

In the town of Nurdagi, a Spanish rescuer began shouting “I got him, I got him, let’s go” as he pulled a crying two-year-old boy from the rubble of a collapsed building. They then moved the boy to a heated tent and minutes later brought out his six-year-old sister, Elif, and then their mother, alive.

Across the border in Syria, rescuers from the White Helmets group used their bare hands to dig through plaster and cement until they reached the bare leg of a young girl wearing pink pajamas who was eventually recovered and is safe.

A day earlier in the Syrian city of Azaz, Jomaa Bayazid was reunited with his 18-month-old son Ibrahim, whom he had not seen since the earthquake destroyed the family’s home, killing his wife and daughter. Rescuers found the boy in the rubble and took him to hospital, where a couple posted images of him on social media hoping to locate any relatives.

In tears with scars and blood stains on his face, Bayazid looked stunned as his son called out to him “Baba” (“Daddy”). Then he ran over to give the boy a kiss. Bayazid said he was still looking for his other son, Mustafa.
