The first Turkish chef awarded 2 Michelin stars closed his award-winning restaurant in Istanbul and set up a kitchen in Iskenderunto help residents left homeless by the earthquakes.
“My dear friends, food lovers from all over the world and chefs René Rezepi, Jose Andres and David Chang, I am addressing you all, this is an urgent appeal,” said in a video message posted on social networking sites. Fatih Tutak. “We are in the southern part of Turkey. We are building a kitchen and inviting many chefs from all over Turkey. We need your help. The situation is very serious. It’s like the Apocalypse“, he added.
Tutak also posted a second video in which he is depicted, in front of his makeshift kitchen, holding a Turkish flag.
Tutak temporarily closed his restaurant, in a historic district of Istanbul, and went to Hatay province to help those affected.
